East Bronx Moves: Pelham Parkway, Parkchester and Throggs Neck
Updated October 11, 2026
The East Bronx has quick highway links to Queens, Westchester and Manhattan, but several of its best-known roads are closed to moving trucks. Knowing which ones helps you plan the day and understand your estimate.
Parkways that moving trucks cannot use
NYC DOT lists the Hutchinson River Parkway, the Bronx River Parkway, Pelham Parkway and Mosholu Parkway among the roads where commercial vehicles are not allowed. If your building is on one of them, look for the nearest side street where a truck can stop, read the signs, and tell the mover.
Truck route changes from October 4, 2026
The NYC DOT truck route changes that took effect on October 4, 2026 include several East Bronx streets. Pugsley Avenue between the Cross Bronx Expressway service road and Westchester Avenue was added. The East Tremont Avenue slip lane at Westchester Avenue was removed. Nearby in Hunts Point, Manida Street and Ryawa Avenue were added, and Hunts Point Avenue between Randall Avenue and Halleck Street was removed.
Bridges to Queens and Manhattan
The Throgs Neck Bridge, the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge and the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge are MTA crossings with cashless tolls. If your move heads toward Riverdale or the west side of Manhattan, note that the MTA does not allow trucks on the Henry Hudson Bridge at any time, so the truck takes another route.
Big buildings and walk-ups
For a large building or complex, call the management office early: ask about move days and hours, the elevator reservation and the certificate of insurance (COI). For a walk-up, count the floors and measure the large furniture and the tightest turn on the stairs.
The curb on moving day
Check the alternate side parking rules for the block. When they are suspended, cars can stay parked all day, so plan an early start. Tell the mover about hydrants, bus stops and driveways near the door.
